Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) and the Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha(CCRAS) will shortly launch a project for introduction of Indian system of Medicine in National Reproductivity and Child Health programme in primary health centres of five states.
The project, sponsored by the Union Departments of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy and Family Welfare, to get Ayurveda and Siddha in the mainstream by providing primary healthcare would be implemented in Maharashtra, Karnakata, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, CCRAS Director G S Lavekar said while making a presentation at the India-Africa, Asean and GCC Pharma and Health Conference here today.
He said the Council had succesfully commercialised anti-malarial drug ''Ayush-64'', anti-epileptic drug ''Ayush-56'', ''777 oil'' for Psoriasis and Ayush GHTTI, herbomineral preparation for cough, cold, fever and diarrhoea in children.
The CCRAS along with the ICMR and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research were involved in Golden Triangle Partnership project with focus on finding remedies for joint, sleep and cardiac disorders, he informed.
The CCRAS had standardised durgs for improvement of quality of life of HIV/AIDS patients as also Cancer patients. As many as 30 areas had been prioritised for research, including treatment for Menopausal sydrome and Chronic Stable Angina in the next three years.
About 19 patents had been obtained, including drugs for curing leukemia and cancer by the CCRAS. It had entered into Memorandum of Understanding with the National Research Development Corporation to face challenges in the wake the new patent regime. As many as 12 patent applications were pending.
Expressing concern over reports that some ayurvedic medicines contained heavy metals, he said the council had taken up chemical analysis for heavy metal contents and safety profiles of these drugs biologically.
